Recap: Becoming a Film Friendly Archivist workshop

On November 5, 2007 I attended the SAA Becoming a Film Friendly Archivist workshop. The presenters were Snowden Becker and Katie Trainor, Film Preservationists at the IFC Center. Both are extremely well versed in the medium of film for archival purposes.

Topics discussed involved what archivists should know before accessioning film into their collection. Specifically, how to identify film formats by both sight and asking pertinent questions to a client over the phone. Also,  safe handling of film, processes of assessment and preservation of film, copyright and ethical issues.
