Background
March 22nd through March 29th of 2006 I traveled to Europe with my friend, Blythe, for nine glorious days. We visited the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. While she had been to the area a few times prior, this was my first trip to Europe since the age of 13. It would prove to be an amazing experience in social dynamics and perspective on my own culture. And as for Blythe, she would meet the man she is now engaged to.
While we experienced many incredible sites of each city, the food I ate was documented in photos almost as much as the attractions and architecture. Also, both being fans of Belgium beer, Blythe and I had the opportunity to sample many of the lesser accessible brands. The trip was rich with adventure in a myriad of ways. We were fortunate enough to have natives of the countries tour us around for a certain sections of the trip. This allowed a less touristy
experience and a greater perspective on how life is really like in these places.
The trip was so inspiring that upon my return to the USA I actually felt what I can only describe as a reverse homesickness
. I missed the culture and way of living so that an almost depression set in. With any luck I will be able to continue exploring Europe in the future. Tentatively, I will be going back to Cologne next May for Blythe's marriage to Gunner!
